Air conditioning systems – A Boon for all seasons
Air conditioning is a system designed to remove heat from a specific area using a refrigeration cycle. HVAC is an acronym used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning; the system it works in. Air conditioners are mostly used in homes, cars and offices. They absorb heat and provide comfort mainly during the summers.
An air conditioner is mainly used for cooling. It dehumidifies the indoor air and provides thermal comfort. In a wider sense, an air conditioner brings a change in the condition of air by cooling, heating and ventilation. The air conditioner stabilizes air temperature and controls the humidity within a particular area. It either works using a refrigerator cycle or evaporation. They are mostly used for providing comfort in buildings and vehicles. Whether to cool or to heat depends on the air temperature and weather at that specific point of time.
Ancient Rome had the original concept of air conditioning. They used to circulate adequate water through the walls of certain houses and buildings to cool them. Similarly, in medieval Persia, they used boilers and wind towers and kept their buildings cool during hot climate. It was only during the 19th century; with the progress in science and technology, that modern air conditioning came into being. In the year 1902, Willis Haviland Carrier invented large-scale electrical air conditioning. From that day, the demand for air conditioners has only grown. So no matter what the weather or season is, an air conditioner is always there to make you feel comfortable.
