Workings of an evaporative cooler

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Simon @ 1:26 pm

An evaporative cooler is basically a large fan with a water moistened pad in front of it. Warm air from the outside is drawn in by the fan through the pads. The fan then blows the now cooled air throughout the room. The pads are made of wood shavings. Wood from aspen trees is a traditional choice for making these pads. The pads have to be made out of a material that absorbs and holds moisture while resisting mildew.

The top of the pads are supplied with water through small distribution lines. Water soaks the pad and trickles through them to collect at the bottom of the cooler. Soon after this the process starts all over again. Since water is continuously lost through evaporation, a float valve adds water when the level gets low. Under normal conditions, a swamp cooler can use from about 3 to 15 gallons of water a day.

A large fan draws air through the pads; evaporation drops the temperature approximately 20 degrees. The fan then blows this cooled air into the room. Small units can be installed in a window and this will blow cool air directly into a room. Larger units can blow air into a central location, or the air can travel through ductwork to separate rooms. Normal air conditioning is a closed system taking air from inside a house and recycling the same air. Unlike air conditioners, evaporative coolers can function by taking air from outside the room.

Window or Central - Which Air Conditioning Unit is better for you?

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Phillip @ 9:24 am

Air conditioning units vary widely in size and the size of area they can cool. An air conditioning unit comprises of a liquid refrigerant like Freon, a pump, a condenser, an evaporator, a thermostat that controls temperature and an expansion valve which allows the cooled air to be released. To find the best unit for your home at the most reasonable price it is important for you to do some research. Air conditioning units can be window cooling systems or central air conditioning units.

Window cooling systems are quite popular because they can be moved to wherever its cooling is needed within an office or home. Units with different BTU’s are capable of cooling various sized rooms, making it possible to cool a larger room with bigger units. Because of its capacity to cool well, many individuals as well as some businesses use window cooling systems.

Central air conditioning units are popular throughout the world. There are different types of central cooling available – some parts are inside the building and other parts outside the building. Larger packaged systems are also available. One unit is capable of cooling as many rooms as you need since the air is spread through ductwork. Although central air conditioning units are very expensive their efficiency and noise-free ability make up for it. Such units prevent the air inside the building from becoming stale in hot weather conditions.

Use Evaporative Coolers and Save Energy

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Nathan @ 4:24 pm

Nations consume a large amount of energy through air conditioning homes, offices and plants. While air conditioners offer effective cooling in both large and small scale applications, they are not the only cooling option available for use.  If you are residing in a dry area, with relative humidity less than 50%, you can consider using and evaporative cooler instead of an air conditioner. They really save on energy.

To understand how evaporative coolers save on energy, you must first understand briefly how an air conditioner works. In an air conditioner, a refrigerant like Freon gas is used to provide cooling. It functions just like a refrigerator, without an insulated outer box. The operating costs of air conditioners are comparatively high compared to evaporative coolers. (more…)

Portable air conditioners for computer rooms, stores and retail parks

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Phillip @ 4:38 pm

Heat is detrimental for computers. Valuable equipments in IT, data centres and server rooms get damaged if the room temperatures are not maintained properly. The failure of these equipments can cause disruption of operations and result in heavy financial losses. In the food and beverages industry or warehousing, the extent of damage will be much higher. All such places have fixed installations of air conditioners. When these air conditioners suddenly fail due to unforeseen reasons or are required to be shut for maintenance, temperature control becomes critical. The best equipment to help you in such emergencies is the Portable Air conditioner. (more…)

Multiple advantages of an air conditioner dehumidifier

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Simon @ 9:29 am

Air absorbs water. As the amount of absorbed water increases, we start feeling uncomfortable. To minimise your discomfort, there is a specialised piece of equipment called an air conditioner dehumidifier. Air conditioner dehumidifiers, apart from performing the function of air conditioning, also perform the function of extracting water vapours from air. The cooling agent in an air conditioner dehumidifier converts water vapour into water through condensation. All you need to do is empty the pan when it is full with condensed water. (more…)

Know more about portable air conditioners

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Phillip @ 4:17 pm

A portable air conditioner is a self-contained unit that sits on the floor of the space that needs to be cooled. It provides cooling similar to a window air conditioner.

Setting up a portable air conditioner is simple. All portable air conditioners exhaust hot air during the process of cooling. Hot air is pushed out of the space being cooled through an air discharge hose. The hose is vented out to an adjoining room or out of a window. (more…)
