How to maintain an air conditioner efficiently

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Simon @ 4:16 pm

If maintained properly, an air conditioner unit should last for about ten to fifteen years or even longer. It is very easy to keep the system running efficiently keeping by simply following the tips below:

•    It is important to check and see that there are no leakages in the condensation tube and ensure the condensation tube is draining freely.
•    The timely replacement of the air filter is important. The filter should be changed every month especially during the summers as there is a lot of dust and infection in the air during this time of the year.
•    The compressor, which is outside, should be cleaned by spraying water on it with a hose.
•    There should be open space for adequate airflow, all around the unit. You should keep plants at least a foot away from the air conditioner unit.
•    The air vents should be vacuumed regularly. All the ducts in an air conditioner should be cleaned regularly as advised by the experts.
•    The compressor of the air conditioner should be kept covered during winters.

How to cut electricity costs through optimum usage of your air conditioner

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Phillip @ 2:15 pm

Most homes and offices these days have an air conditioner. Various types of air conditioners are used according to the cooling needs. An air conditioner provides comfort during summers by releasing cool air and sucking out the heat. The prolonged usage of an air conditioner is bound to increase the electricity bill, as compared to using the fan.

Here are some ideas to cut electricity costs through optimum usage of your air conditioner:

•    Select an air conditioning unit with thermostat controls as well as programmable timers.
•    Open windows, shades during the evening when temperatures drop and the air gets cooler. Use blinds, awnings and shades for keeping the heat out.
•    Turn off lights, television and computer machines when they are not in use. They put additional load on air conditioners and make them work harder!
•    Do not place lamps or television sets near an air conditioning thermostat.
•    Shut unoccupied rooms and close their air conditioning vents.
•    Switch off air conditioners in unoccupied rooms.

Ensure that clean and healthy air circulates in the room

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Nathan @ 12:14 pm

Coping with hot summers can be a great problem. Air conditioners are an excellent option to protect one from the unbearable heat. It is important to stay healthy and fit in hot weather. The air conditioners play an important role in this. They not only lower the room temperature but also filter the air that enters the room from outside.

A good air conditioner will have a good filtering system, which will filter the air as it circulates in the room. If you need a place free from any kind of dust particles or any such impurities, one thing that you should invest in for long term benefits is an air conditioner with an in-built air cleaner.

This type of air conditioner system is appropriate for maintaining the occupant’s health. A good air conditioner is even more important if any of them have any breathing difficulties or suffers from some kind of allergy.

You have to take proper care in cleaning the air filter of the air conditioner regularly to see that the contaminated air is sent out of the room.

Two critical areas of air conditioner servicing

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Nathan @ 7:06 am

In case of a leakage, the first thing you must check is whether your air conditioner drainage line is clogged because this is usually the main reason, which causes it to drain off water.

An air conditioner’s drain line must be cleaned regularly. Most of the drain lines flow with the help of gravity by releasing the condensation, which then gets collected in the pan. The pan starts overflowing as and when it gets blocked because of the unit leaks. Leakage or no leakage, you should maintain your air conditioning unit properly if you want it to work with good efficiency.

Do not forget to clean your filter on a regular basis. Change it when required. If the filters are dirty, it will block air flow and will decrease efficiency of your air conditioning unit. The air that gets through will make the evapourator coil dirtier and reduce the heat absorbing capacity of the coil. There are some filters that can be reused, whereas some have to be replaced.

Planning to rent an air conditioner? Things you need know

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Phillip @ 4:04 pm

The technicians and experts from an air conditioner rental company visit the venue where air conditioning is required on a temporary basis. They work out the exact cooling needs, and accordingly recommend cooling solutions.

The rental companies offer all the kinds of air conditioners that one might need. Some of them are:

•    Window Air conditioner
•    Bedroom Air conditioner
•    Central Air conditioner
•    Car Air conditioner

The rent charges vary depending upon the type of air conditioner required. The rates can be negotiated. The cheapest rent is for central air conditioning. There are some companies that charge a deposit before giving an air conditioner on rent. The deposit is refundable. Check whether this is refundable or not.
Air conditioner rentals are charged on monthly basis. You can also hire portable air conditioners for a day or even a few hours.

The service and maintenance of the company from which you rent air conditioners will be at your call in case of a breakdown, so you need not worry on that count.

How to make your air conditioning units last longer

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Nathan @ 1:03 pm

Air conditioners are not cheap. You cannot afford to buy a new air conditioner every year. So it is important that you make your air conditioning units last longer. If you take some precautionary measures, you can make it happen.

Air conditioners have to be serviced regularly because a normal air conditioner loses about 5 per cent of its efficiency every year. This means over a period of time, your new air conditioner will loose its efficiency, whereas a properly maintained air conditioner can last approximately for 15 years.

The first step to maintain your unit is to check your unit regularly to find any potential problems. Inspect all hoses for leaks and see to it that the condensate tube is draining freely. The filters must be checked often and cleaned or changed monthly.

Seasonal care will increase the durability of your air conditioner. You must take more care during summer season as the level of pollutants and dust in the air increases. You can remove your window air conditioner during winter and store them safely until they are required again.

Is it time to replace your old air conditioning unit?

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Simon @ 8:02 am

Do you have a central air conditioner that is more than 10 years old? Is it not working efficiently and is rather ineffective? If the answer to both the questions is yes, it is time to replace your old unit with a more efficient and newer one.

If you keep on using old air conditioners, you will have to cough up extra money on electricity bills as outdated units consume more energy. If your air conditioner needs to be repaired on a regular basis and still breaks down, it is better to replace it than spend money on repairing in frequently.

If some of your rooms are either too hot or too cold, it might be the result of an inefficient air conditioning system. There might be some problem with your air conditioner ducts or it might be a case of inadequate insulation. Perhaps, the current fan is not effective enough. There is no point guessing! Ideally, you should hire an air conditioner maintenance company to help you out in this task.

The importance of keeping air filters in air conditioning units clean

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Simon @ 11:01 am

If you use your air conditioner as a cooler or heater, it may well result in dirty filters. Without a clean air filter, an air conditioner will not emit a clean airflow. You need to get the air filter of your air conditioner replaced at regular intervals.

If your air conditioner’s air filter is not kept clean, it will not work properly and will consume more electricity when compared to a well maintained air conditioner. Also, the occupants will be deprived of adequate cooling and heating. To be on the safe side, change the air filters of your unit as prescribed by the air conditioner maintenance staff.

The air filters in air conditioners used for commercial or industrial purpose must be changed in keeping with the work environment. The units must be checked every fortnight and replaced if found dirty.

When buying air conditioner, you must check its MEWRV ratings- Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value of 1-12. Higher rating means better ability to remove air pollutants like dust, pollen, etc.

In-house air conditioner maintenance is not a wise idea

Filed under: Advice — Phillip @ 1:00 pm

Air conditioners these days are of much better quality, so many users think it is not necessary to pay much attention to them as long as they draw cool air comfortably. They do not service it regularly, which is a mistake.

To maintain an air conditioner at your home or in office in good shape, it is important to regularly clean it. It is important to keep all the parts dirt free, be it the condenser or any other part. It is a must to keep a regular check of the air conditioner as it not only affects the health of your family but also increases the life of the AC.

You will require a technician if there are compressor issues. The refrigerant often enters the compressor crankcase and produces sound when the compressor starts up. Also check if oil level in the compressor is low.

You may think that you can get the cleaning and maintenance job done in-house and save cost. However, it makes sense to outsource this job to a professional air conditioner maintenance technician.

Steps to stop water leakage from your Air Conditioner

Filed under: Advice — Nathan @ 1:00 pm

At times, the water from the air conditioner starts leaking. If it is a window mounted air conditioner, the leakage may even damage the walls. There are a few solutions to avoid water leakage from your air conditioner.

First, it is important to locate the cause of the leakage. It well could be the clogging of the drain line of the air conditioner. The drain line needs regular cleaning. It releases the condensation that collects in the pan. It gets blocked and overflows, thus resulting in leakage. A regular maintenance of the air conditioner must comprise the drain line cleaning to keep it unclogged.

In case of a window air conditioner the drain line could be placed outside and could be flushed easily from outside, even from a garden hose pipe. If your air conditioner has a condensation pump, the pump might need a replacement at times.

The water in the air conditioner with the pump needs to be piped from the unit to the pump. One needs to check the pump, if it still is overflowing. It maybe time for replacing the pump.
