Installing an air conditioner in a new office or building

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Phillip @ 8:48 am

Installing an air conditioner is not an easy task. You should never attempt to install an air conditioning unit if you are not qualified for the job. An air conditioning system should be installed only by a reputed air conditioning company. The type of air conditioner you want to install depends totally upon your needs.

Electric bills are one of the major expenses of every business, hence while installing an air conditioner you should make sure that you are getting your money’s worth. Proper air conditioning installation can increase the life span of the air conditioning parts and equipment.

If you have an office and need to get it air conditioned, you should contact an air conditioner installation company or an air conditioning contractor. Before getting into any contract, first confirm whether the contractor has the required experience and expertise to install an air conditioner.

The contractor will inspect the building and then give you a quotation for the contract.
For the central air conditioning, the installation company would need a blueprint or design layout of the building if it is still under construction. This is required to plan the ductwork layout.

Once your air conditioner system is installed, you should regularly carry out air maintenance and servicing of the unit and repair it when required, ideally from the same contractor who installed it.

Do not neglect the air compressor of your air conditioning unit

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Nathan @ 3:46 pm

One of the most important parts of your air conditioning unit is the air compressor. Most people forget to take proper care of the air compressor.

An air conditioning compressor does exactly what its name suggests - it compresses the air at a very high pressure. Air compressors are located underneath the fan in the outdoor unit. The low pressure and low volume gases are converted into high pressure and high temperature gases that are needed in an air conditioner.

The compressor removes all the vapour from the evaporator and maintains a low boiling point. All central air conditioning systems need an air compressor. This is why maintaining them properly is so important. If the air compressor is damaged or does not work properly, you should replace it. Replacing the air conditioner compressor is something that should only be handled by a professional air conditioning contractor or air conditioner repair company.

The compressor of the air conditioner should be maintained properly so that it can provide effective heating and cooling.

Sometimes, what is looked upon as a maintenance issue is just the air condition compressor functioning improperly due to the excess heat outside. In such a situation, you should simply locate the high pressure limit switch and turn the button on and off until it resets itself.

The compressor of the air conditioner can get dirty. Make sure that you clean it regularly. There are special-purpose oils available which is specifically designed for air conditioner compressors. This way, you can keep your air compressor running in the optimum condition.

Central or window air conditioning, which one is better?

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Simon @ 9:45 am

There are two types of air conditioning units that you can choose from, either a window air conditioning unit or a central air conditioning unit. Both types of unit have their own set of advantages. However, you should select one that matches your requirements.

A central air conditioner is more suitable for large offices and building where cooling is required in all rooms. A window air conditioner on the other hand is used for cooling only a single room. It would be very costly to install a window air conditioner is all the rooms of a large building. Central air conditioners are more suitable for such places.

Window units are placed in the windows hence they cannot be installed in a room where there are no windows.  There are many places in an office where installing a window air conditioner is not possible due to lack of space. A central air conditioner does not require much space. It can cool even a small room without a window, passages, walkways etc.

All new constructions typically have central air conditioning. These units help in cooling the entire building. The actual unit is located outside, so these units are quieter than the window units. Central air conditioners are more energy efficient and you experience better and effective cooling.

In short, central air conditioners are better and more suitable for use in commercial offices, buildings, showrooms etc.

Central air conditioning has now become a necessity

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Phillip @ 4:43 pm

These days central air conditioning has taken over from window units. Central air conditioning can be used to cool each and every room in the office, showroom, store or any type of buildings. Central air conditioning units use a network of vents and ducts to circulate air throughout the building. Central air conditioners are commonly used in offices and large buildings due to their effective and efficient cooling.

Central air conditioning when compared to the traditional window units has many advantages as well. As the cooling unit is located outside the building it is very quiet. Generally, the compressor is the noisiest part of a system. The air handler is situated in the attic or at times behind a door. The air is sucked in by the air handler and then it reaches other vents, thus the air gets circulated all over.

As the whole unit is located outdoors, there is no blockage of space inside the building. You just need to touch a button and the unit starts working.

Nowadays every office has central air conditioning. It has become an indispensable part of every office or building. Moreover, with the development in technology, these central air conditioning systems are now ozone friendly. They are now using new refrigerants like R-140A in replacement of R-22.

Central air conditioning is much effective in its cooling compared to the window units. They cool rooms much faster. They come with a remote control and you do not have to get up for changing the temperature and other user settings.

Advantages of buying an energy efficient air conditioner

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Nathan @ 12:43 pm

Any room air conditioner is a self contained; it is a small unit designed for cooling. Most models are placed in windows whereas some models are installed via an external wall opening. No matter what type of an air conditioning unit you use, it is important to check if the unit is efficient enough. If the air conditioning unit is inefficient, it will result in additional energy consumption and an increase in your electricity bills.

If you want to buy an energy efficient unit, you should look for its energy efficiency rating. There are two ways by which you can determine if your air condition is efficient enough, you can either go for an air conditioner with a high SEER rating or select an air conditioning unit with ratings from Energy Star.

Both these ratings signify that the air conditioner is energy efficient. You can save a lot of money on your energy bills by using these energy efficient air conditioners. The ratings are given after the air conditioning units are checked for their efficiency.

Many buyers underestimate the importance of buying a branded and energy efficient air conditioner. They look for air conditioners that are cheap without realising the fact that in the long run, they tend to be more expensive in terms of repairs, maintenance and high energy consumption.

You should therefore buy an energy efficient air conditioner with a good SEER or Energy Star rating for your office or home.

Repairing or replacing air conditioning compressors

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Simon @ 4:43 pm

Air conditioning compressors and air conditioners have become a necessity in today’s world. Unpredictable weather and global warming make it imperative for anyone to have at least one room, if not the full home, air conditioned. The demand for air conditioning units has increased manifolds in the last few years.

The quality of air conditioning units depends a lot upon the compressors inside the units. The life of the air conditioning unit also depends on how well you take care of the air compressor system. If your air compressor is not functioning properly or if it has to be replaced, you should get it repaired or replaced by a professional technician only.

The most important thing you should do when replacing your air conditioner’s compressor is to find out the details about your air conditioning unit. This includes the model specifications, tonnage of the unit, serial numbers and other such other small details. This helps the air conditioning technician to identify your unit and get the right air compressor that suits your air conditioner. The air conditioner would not function properly if you use a mismatched air compressor.

Once you have repaired or replaced the air compressor, you will see the improved performance of your air conditioning unit almost immediately.

You can save a lot of money on your electricity bills by replacing or repairing the compressor of your air conditioning unit.

Frequent change in temperature is not good for your health

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Phillip @ 8:41 am

Every year, the summer season comes with sunshine and high temperatures. You may deal with the heat with the help of a fan but air conditioners are a better option.
The use of air conditioners goes up considerably during the summer season. While you can maintain a constant room temperature with the help of an air conditioning unit, you cannot do anything about the outside temperature.

To avoid frequent and sudden changes in the surrounding temperature, you should take some precautions.

Do not switch on the air conditioner as soon as you step into the room. The sudden change in temperature is not good for your body and health. You can switch on the fan if you have one in the room or wait for a few minutes before you switch on the air conditioner.

During the summer, the temperature can reach more than thirty degrees centigrade and people usually set the temperature of the unit lower than twenty degrees centigrade. You may enjoy the environment if you stay inside your office or home, but if you go outside then you may experience tremendous heat because of the big difference between the outdoor and indoor temperatures. This drastic change in the temperature can be quite harmful to your body. You can catch cold, suffer from headaches or fall sick.

Under normal conditions, the difference between the outdoor and indoor temperature should be around eight degrees centigrade. You should not stay in an air conditioned room for many hours. Keep the temperature of your room at a constant level as it will help you to save electricity.

When is the right time to get your air filters changed?

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Nathan @ 4:40 pm

It is very important to have clean air in your home or office. Air conditioners not only provide us with the required cooling, but also help with improving the indoor air quality. The air inside the room is filtered and cleaned by the air filters. The Air Handling Unit of your air conditioner holds your air filters.

As dust accumulates in the filter, the pressure differential between the outlet and the inlet increases. If you measure this pressure differential, you get a good indication about the condition of the air filter. There are some dust particles that are minute and cannot be seen by the naked eye and the filter may look clean. However, you can easily find out whether it is clean or not by checking the pressure.

You can check a few things to determine if you need to change the air filter.

Mechanical strength - The standard pressure of any filter is stated on the product itself. But there are some other factors to be considered the dust in the area, humidity etc.

Bacteria- At times the filter needs to be replaced to prevent the accumulation of harmful micro organisms like bacteria, fungi etc.

Economic considerations- If you do not change the filters for a long period of time, then your operating costs may increase and you may end up spending a lot on your electric bills unnecessarily.

Thus it is very important to change the filters of your air conditioning unit at regular intervals. Make sure that you change the air filters with the help of a professional technician.

Selecting a window air conditioner

Filed under: Air Conditioning — Simon @ 8:38 am

The window air conditioner is arguably the most popular type of air conditioner. Window air conditioners are used more when compared to a split air conditioner and central air conditioner. Window air conditioners are more popular than other types of air conditioners because of their unique advantages.

Window air conditioners are used not only by individuals but also in offices and organisations. Window air conditioners are used commonly for cooling as well as heating. Window air conditioners can be installed very easily. Most of the body of a window air conditioner is outside the room, hence they do not take up much space in your room.

When purchasing a window air conditioner, make sure you get a unit that makes little noise. The noise level of the air conditioner is measured in decibels. The higher the number of decibels the air conditioner unit produces, the louder it is. An air conditioning unit that makes a lot of noise is of poor quality or design. It would not only bother you, but also trouble your neighbours, especially during night when it is quiet outside.

Get a window air conditioner that can be operated completely with the help of a remote control so that you do not have to keep moving when operating the unit.

You should get the air conditioner installed by a trained and qualified air conditioning expert only. Never compromise on the quality of your air conditioner and always choose a reputed brand.
